It’s has been just a couple of months since Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)’s scintillating performance in the IPL 2024 Final vs the Sunrisers Hyderabad to win their third IPL Trophy, but the excitement is already abuzz of the IPL 2025 season that is to commence of March 2025 and will continue till May 2025. But, even before the teams hit the ground, it is time for some action off the ground as all the 10 IPL teams are currently preparing for the upcoming IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

The IPL Auction provides a platform for all the teams to refresh the team their team ahead of the new season and improve on the weaknesses encountered during the previous season. There are two types of IPL Auction, a mini auction is where the teams have no limit of players they can retain and release while in the mega auction, every team is alloted a maximum number players they can retain, and the rest of the squad will be released and will go into the IPL Auction pool.

List of Confirmed Released Players For Every Team

With the IPL 2025 Auction being a Mega Auction, each teams are set to be allowed to retain/RTM up to 6 players. In this article, we will take a look at the list of released players of every IPL team ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Kolkata Knight Riders

The IPL 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have a big dilemma in their hand as to which four players they should retain. It is believed that the Kolkata Knight Riders were looking to retain upto 8 players and proposed the same to the BCCi in the IPL franchise owners’ meeting. The team is very much likely to keep hold of their two legendary players Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. Meanwhile, their Indian duo could very well be their captain Shreyas Iyer and star batter Rinku Singh. If that’s the case, their released list could comprise of players like Mitchell Starc, Phil Salt, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had a cracker of a season but fell behind the Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. They will be looking to hold on to their power-hitting opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Captain Pat Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are likely to be other two retentions. In that case, they will have to release the likes of Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, Washington Sundar, Umran Malik, T Natarajan and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Rajasthan Royals suffered a defeat against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 2 and failed to qualify for the final. They will be looking to keep their captain Sanju Samson and their star Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. In terms of overseas players, Jos Buttler and Trent Boult could occupy that place. They will have to let go off Riyan Parag, Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan and Sandeep Sharma.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat the Chennai Super Kings in their last match of the league phase to qualify for the playoffs despite losing all the matches in the first half. They will be for sure keeping their star batter Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar. Indian team pacer Mohammed Siraj is also likely to be retained with the overseas slot likely to taken by Faf du Plessis. In that case, players like Will Jacks, Glenn Maxwell, Manoj Bhandage and Yash Dayal will be released.

Chennai Super Kings missed out on a place in the IPL 2024 playoffs on the back of a close defeat against RCB. They will be looking to keep their new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, former captain Ravindra Jadeja in the team. Mustafizur Rahman could be their overseas retention and MS Dhoni might complete the fourth retention. In that case, they will have to release the likes of Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube and Deepak Chahar.

Delhi Capitals couldn’t make it to the IPL 2024 Playoffs on net run rate. They will be looking to comeback strong in the next season. Captain Rishabh Pant is likely to be retained alongwith Tristan Stubbs and Jake Fraser-McGurk. Kuldeep Yadav is likely to their fourth retention. In that case, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, Khaleel Ahmed, David Warner will be released.

Despite rumours going on, Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjeev Goenka has confirmed that KL Rahul is very much likely to stay. Nicholas Pooran is likely to be their overseas retention with other two being Ravi Bishnoi and Ayush Badoni. That will see the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Quinton de Kock, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mayank Yadav go into the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

The likes of Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabad and Rahul Chahar might end up in the auction pool.

And with reports that the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav are considering leaving, Mumbai Indians might keep hold of Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera and Ishan Kishan might complete their all Indian retention. That means, alongwith the above mentioned trio, the likes of Tim David, Gerald Coetzee, Akash Madhwal might be available in the auction.
