The cricket fans in India is crazy about the upcoming IPL 2025 Mega Auction and is awaiting the officiall update on what the Mega Auction rules will look like. Just like all the franchises, the fans of the teams are also excited about how many players there team will be allowed to retain and what is about RTM card.

How many players a team will be allowed to retain?

According to latest update now from various sources, the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly decided that each team will be allowed to retain a maximum of 5 players from their IPL 2024 squad into the IPL 2025 season, a combination of maximum 3 Indian players and maximum 2 overseas players. The remaining will all go into the IPL 2025 Mega Auction pool.

What is RTM Card Update?

Fans of the teams are also eager to know how many players there team would be allowed to retain using the RTM card. But, before that, we need to know about what is RTM card.

RTM card is a provision introduced by the BCCI and IPL Governing Council that allows the teams to retain a limited number of their released played by matching the highest bid for that player in the IPL Auction. This allows teams to release player and then later use an RTM card to match the highest bid to retain the player.

However, according to sources, there will be no RTM cards allowed in this year’s IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Teams will be only allowed to retain a maximum of 5 players, a combination of maximum 3 Indian players and maximum 2 overseas players.

When is IPL 2025 Mega Auction Date?

The 2025 Mega Auction date still remains a mystery as the cricket fans in India eagerly awaits for the teams to clash of the field before on the field. However, it is expected that the IPL 2025 Auction will be held around the end of November or most likely in December, after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the Indian domestic T20 tournament concludes in India as it will allow the teams to shortlist the players they wish to sign in the auction.
