IPL 2025: Punjab Kings’ Star Player Ruled Out For The Remaining Season

There has been a major setback for Punjab Kings in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, as their key all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament. The Australian cricketer has suffered a fractured finger, bringing an end to his campaign halfway.
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed the news during the toss ahead of their game against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday.
Speaking at the toss, Iyer said,
“Unfortunate that he’s got a fractured finger (Maxwell). Haven’t decided on a replacement so far.”
Glenn Maxwell’s Performance for Punjab Kings
Maxwell’s departure may not necessarily impact the team’s performance since he was struggling to get into rhythm this season. Picked up for ₹4.2 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, Maxwell’s comeback to PBKS was expected to add depth to the middle order and contribute strategic depth with his off-spin. Nevertheless, his recent show has led people to question his role in the team.
Maxwell’s IPL 2025 season has been disappointing. In seven games, he has scored just 48 runs at an average of 8.00 and a strike rate of 97.95. His scores of 7, 7, 3, 1, 30, and 0 reflect a lack of form.
Punjab Kings, who have been battling hard in the mid-table fight, will now have to come up with an apt replacement at the earliest as the playoff race intensifies. Shreyas Iyer, however, remained optimistic that his team is remaining positive.
“We’ll focus on our process. Our preparations have been intact. Boys are in high spirits and looking forward for a great game,” Iyer also added at the toss.
With Maxwell out, all eyes will be on Punjab Kings management to see who they would come in to replace him for the balance of the IPL 2025.
