The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is generating excitement among cricket enthusiasts globally as it continues with ten teams, just like the 2024 season. Social media is a significant platform for fan engagement and brand promotion, and the IPL franchises utilize these platforms extensively. The three franchises leading the pack in terms of social media popularity are Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Chennai Super Kings stand out as the most followed IPL team across various platforms. They boast an impressive 16.6 million followers on Instagram, 10.7 million on X.com (formerly Twitter), and 14 million on Facebook, totaling 41.3 million followers. This makes CSK the top team in terms of social media followers.

Mumbai Indians follow closely, with 15.1 million followers on Instagram, 8.2 million on X.com, and 14 million on Facebook. This places them second in the overall social media rankings among IPL franchises.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, with a total of 33.3 million followers, hold the third spot. Their social media presence includes 16 million followers on Instagram, 7.3 million on X.com, and 10 million on Facebook.

Outside the top three, Kolkata Knight Riders are ranked fourth with 28.8 million followers. Despite their strong social media presence, they are notable for their achievement of winning three IPL trophies.

The other franchises in the social media follower rankings include Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in fifth, sixth, and seventh positions, respectively. Meanwhile, the new franchises, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow SuperGiants, occupy the ninth and tenth spots, with social media followers totaling 6.4 million and 5.1 million respectively.

As the IPL 2025 approaches, these rankings highlight the significant role of social media in the popularity and marketing strategies of cricket teams. Each franchise aims to expand its reach and engage with a broader audience as the tournament progresses.
