IPL Rumours: KKR To Bring Back Suryakumar Yadav As Captain To Replace Shreyas Iyer; DC And LSG Saving-Up 50 Crore For Rohit Sharma

KKR Pondering Bringing Suryakumar Yadav Back Home As Captain For IPL 2025
According to journalist Rohit Juglan, Suryakumar Yadav has received an unofficial offer from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to return to his old side and lead the team upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). KKR is reportedly considering a swap deal involving their current captain, Shreyas Iyer, who led them to the IPL 2024 title, for the Indian T20I captain.
Suryakumar Yadav, currently ranked as the No. 2 T20I batter in the ICC rankings, has seen his value soar as India’s T20I captain. Though his captaincy experience is limited, he has shown the potential to lead effectively. During his tenure with Mumbai Indians (MI), Suryakumar was the vice-captain under Rohit Sharma.
However, the arrival of Hardik Pandya shifted the leadership dynamic, with Hardik taking over as captain for the 2024 IPL season. After a disappointing season under Hardik’s captaincy, there are questions about MI’s future strategy.
Also note that, Suryakumar Yadav was acting as the deputy to Gautam Gambhir during his stint with KKR and it was after Gambhir’s appointment that it was decided that Suryakumar Yadav would be Team India’s new T20I captain. Thus, although Surya doesn’t have much captaincy accolade, former KKR captain and current Team India already knew about the leadership qualities of Surya.
Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants Ready to Splash ₹50 Crore For T20 World Cup Winning Captain Rohit Sharma
In another significant development, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants are reportedly saving ₹50 crore each to sign Rohit Sharma in the IPL 2025 auction. The franchises are awaiting Rohit’s decision on whether he will continue with Mumbai Indians, where he has led the team to five IPL titles since 2013.
In the 2024 season, Mumbai Indians finished last under Hardik’s leadership, and Rohit’s form with the bat was below his usual standards. Rohit Sharma’s potential move has made him one of the most sought-after players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, with multiple teams eager to bring him on board if he decides to leave Mumbai Indians.
With the Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals all in desperate need of a good leader, Rohit Sharma pops-up as the most suitable candidate available for both the sides. Lucknow Super Giants is reportedly set to part ways with current captain while Delhi Capitals have not had the best of times under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, and with reported links with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals is already planning for backup.
