Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced an early collapse in their match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2025. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, SRH lost two early wickets, including Ishan Kishan, who walked back after a half-hearted appeal by MI, taken out by Deepak Chahar. This early wicket left SRH at 9-2 after just 2.1 overs.

As the game progressed, the Orange Army found themselves in a precarious situation at 30-4 in the seventh over, largely due to effective bowling by MI’s pacers, including the formidable Jasprit Bumrah. SRH ended the powerplay at 24-4, underlining their struggle to handle MI’s pace attack.

Before the match began, both teams observed a minute’s silence to honor the victims of a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Hardik Pandya, the MI captain, expressed condolences for the victims and highlighted the team’s decision to bowl first. MI made a strategic change to their lineup by including Vignesh Puthur.

SRH’s playing XI included key players such as Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen, while MI fielded a strong lineup featuring Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Notably, Travis Head aimed to achieve a milestone of 200 T20 sixes, and Rohit Sharma was nearing 12,000 T20 runs. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah was on the brink of reaching 300 T20 wickets. This match also marked Ishan Kishan’s 200th T20 game.

Historically, SRH and MI have clashed 24 times in IPL, with MI leading with 13 wins compared to SRH’s 10. This fixture was crucial for SRH, who have been inconsistent and placed ninth on the IPL table, whereas MI had been in better form, recently securing a victory against CSK.

The match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was anticipated to favor batters, known for high-scoring games. However, the pitch’s tendency to assist bowlers with variations made the contest intriguing.

In summary, SRH’s struggle against MI highlighted their ongoing challenges in the league. As both teams continue their IPL journey, this match further defines the dynamics in their performance and strategies for future games.
