Jasprit Bumrah Returns to IPL 2025: Will He Play Against RCB Today

Indian cricket fans have a big reason to celebrate as star pacer Jasprit Bumrah returns to the IPL 2025, marking his much-awaited comeback for Mumbai Indians (MI). After a prolonged break from competitive cricket, Bumrah is set to make his appearance in MI’s match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday at Wankhede Stadium.
Bumrah’s Fitness Confirmed by Mumbai Indians Head Coach
Mahela Jayawardene, Mumbai Indians’ head coach, has officially confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah is fully fit and available for selection. Speaking ahead of MI’s fifth match of the season, Jayawardene stated:
“Bumrah is available for selection. He joined us on April 5 and completed his rehab with the NCA. He’s been handed over to our physio and is bowling in training. All signs are positive, and he should play against RCB.”
Bumrah’s Rehabilitation and Return Journey
Bumrah had been out of action since early 2024 due to a back injury. During this period, he worked extensively at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Now officially declared match-fit, he’s rejoined the squad and even bowled in the nets to MI skipper Rohit Sharma, who is himself recovering from an injury.
Bumrah’s Comeback
The five-time IPL champions have struggled this season, managing only one win from their first four matches. Bumrah’s return is a major boost, particularly for MI’s bowling department, which has relied heavily on young and inexperienced pacers.
Jayawardene praised Bumrah’s experience, stating:
“He brings leadership, quality, and calmness to the bowling attack. We’re not putting too much pressure on him, but we’re excited to have him back.”

His record speaks volumes about the impact he can make, especially in crunch matches like MI vs RCB.
