Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are gearing up for a critical match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) as they continue their pursuit for a playoff spot in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). Currently, KKR is fighting to remain in the playoff contention, with their immediate challenge being to overcome RR while addressing their inconsistent form at home.

Since the start of the season, KKR has only managed to secure victory in one out of four matches held at their home ground, the Eden Gardens, with one game being abandoned. This weekend, KKR must win all of their remaining four matches to finish the league stage with 17 points, a tally they believe could secure them a playoff berth.

Despite being already eliminated from the tournament, Rajasthan Royals are determined to play a spoiler role. They have nothing to lose and aim to approach the game aggressively. The KKR team has struggled with consistency throughout the season, failing to secure back-to-back wins. Key player Rahmanullah Gurbaz has shown some promising form recently, while Andre Russell and Rinku Singh have offered sporadic contributions. However, Venkatesh Iyer’s continued poor form remains a major concern for KKR management.

Changes could be on the cards for KKR’s playing XI. Anukul Roy’s performance may see him taking the place of Ramandeep Singh, whereas the final overseas player spot might be decided between Rovman Powell and Moeen Ali. A loss against RR on Sunday would not mathematically eliminate KKR but would leave them with a steep hill to climb in their quest for playoff qualification.

On the opponent’s side, Rajasthan Royals, though out of contention for playoffs, are expected to come out with a strong performance. However, they face challenges with skipper Sanju Samson recovering from an injury and Sandeep Sharma ruled out of the game. Young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi have been highlighted for their potential to sway the game.

Adding to the uncertainty, the weather forecast indicates possible Norwesters on Sunday night, which could disrupt play. KKR is hoping to re-establish Eden Gardens as their fortress, while RR aims to conclude their campaign on a high note, proud of their final efforts in the tournament.
