Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are making significant preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season with a focused training camp scheduled from February 21 to 28 in Mumbai. This session is exclusive for domestic players, highlighting the team’s strategy to enhance local talent and fine-tune their skills for the high-pressure matches ahead.

A significant move ahead of the season is KKR’s re-acquisition of Venkatesh Iyer for a substantial sum of Rs 23.75 crore. Known for his versatile play, Iyer is being considered as a potential candidate for the team’s captaincy, reflecting the team’s ambition to maintain a robust leadership core following the departure of Shreyas Iyer to Punjab Kings.

Head coach Chandrakant Pandit has stressed the importance of maintaining continuity within the team, particularly regarding its key players. This approach aims to bolster KKR’s chances in the tournament by keeping the core group intact, allowing for a seamless blend of experience and youth.

Under the guidance of the spin bowling coach Carl Crowe, KKR’s coaching staff is conducting intensive net sessions and match simulations designed to prepare the players thoroughly for their title defense. The team’s readiness will be tested early on as they are set to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their opening match of the season at Eden Gardens on March 22.

To ensure optimal performance, KKR’s main pre-tournament camp will commence on March 12. This camp will see the integration of international players post their commitments at the ICC Champions Trophy, adding depth and diversity to the squad.

In related developments, AR Srikkanth, previously KKR’s Head of Talent Scout and Player Acquisition, has transitioned to Chennai Super Kings as their Talent Scout, marking a notable shift in the dynamics of talent management.
