Former India cricketer and mentor of the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Virender Sehwag, has commended KL Rahul, now playing for the Delhi Capitals, for revamping his batting approach in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Sehwag, who previously shared the dugout with Rahul during the IPL 2018 season at Kings XI Punjab, praised Rahul’s transformation and performance in the current season.
KL Rahul’s significant change in his gameplay has played a crucial role in Delhi Capitals’ undefeated streak so far in IPL 2025. Rahul was notably awarded the Player of the Match title in consecutive fixtures against the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In these matches, Rahul delivered stellar performances, scoring 77 off 51 balls against Chennai and an unbeaten 93 off 53 balls against Bengaluru.
Sehwag, who had mentored Rahul during his tenure at Kings XI Punjab from 2016 to 2018, has highlighted that winning matches is more significant than maintaining a high strike rate. He also shared that he had advised Rahul to play with greater freedom and had foreseen Rahul’s potential to become a superstar. This foresight has been vindicated by Rahul’s tremendous performances, leading to him winning numerous Player of the Match awards.
Since 2018, KL Rahul has garnered the highest number of Player of the Match awards, totaling 15, and boasts an impressive average of 46.36 among the top ten run-getters in IPL history. His consistent performances and strategic gameplay have bolstered his reputation as a leading player in the league.
Leading the Delhi Capitals is Axar Patel, who has guided the team to four consecutive victories in IPL 2025. The team is set to face Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 13, where expectations will undoubtedly be high for Rahul to continue his exceptional form.
