Sri Lanka have recalled left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka to their ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Bangladesh, starting July 2. The 24-year-old speedster returns after missing the Australia series in February due to injury, replacing the now-injured Lahiru Kumara.

The 16-member squad also includes uncapped seamer Milan Rathnayake, though his participation depends on his recovery from a side strain. Rathnayake, who has played five Tests, is expected to be fit by the time the ODIs begin in Colombo.

Fresh Faces and Familiar Returns

Wicketkeeper-batter Sadeera Samarawickrama makes his comeback after being dropped in November 2024 due to poor form. He essentially replaces Nuwanidu Fernando in the squad. Eshan Malinga, who impressed during IPL 2025 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, retains his place alongside fellow pacer Asitha Fernando.

The spin department looks formidable with Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana leading the charge. They’ll be supported by legspinner Jeffrey Vandersay and left-arm spinning all-rounder Dunith Wellalage.

Building Momentum

This series comes at an important time for Sri Lanka, who are currently dominating the Test series against Bangladesh. The hosts are on the verge of an innings victory in the second Test at SSC, with their spinners wreaking havoc on a turning pitch.

Madushanka’s return adds much-needed pace and variety to Sri Lanka’s bowling attack. His left-arm angle and ability to swing the new ball will be crucial against Bangladesh’s top order. The youngster has shown promise in his limited international appearances and will be eager to cement his place in the side.

The first two ODIs will be played in Colombo before the series moves to Pallekele for the final match on July 8. A three-match T20I series follows immediately after, starting July 10 in Pallekele.
