Mayank Yadav, the fast-bowling sensation, has officially rejoined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad following a prolonged recovery at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). The 22-year-old, who stayed out of action since October 2024 owing to a back injury along with a toe niggle, rejoined the team on Tuesday night ahead of their next match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday in Jaipur.

Yadav was retained by LSG for Rs 11 cr and has been recovering from injury. His addition to the Lucknow Super Giants team will be a crucial point for them.

Mayank, whose last competitive performance was in a T20I against Bangladesh in Hyderabad, has finally been cleared by the BCCI medical panel. However, the LSG support team, led by head physio Ashish Kaushik, will undertake their own fitness exam before determining his availability for the coming game.

The young fast bowler has a terrible injury history, with up to five stress fractures in the last two years. Even in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), he appeared in only four games before a side injury ended his season. But his four matches were very impactful for his team.

The pace sensation Mayank took 7 wickets in the four matches he played, and he had an amazing economy rate of 6.98. Mayank’s performance was very impressive and the reason behind it is that he got a call-up for the Indian national team against Bangladesh.

LSG’s Depth After the Addition of Mayank Yadav

LSG has already been hit hard by injuries this year, with Mohsin Khan out and Akash Deep and Avesh Khan joining the squad late. The franchise had to bring in Shardul Thakur as an alternative, and he has since led the pace attack.

Mayank’s comeback will provide a much-needed boost to the pace unit as LSG strives to maintain its place in the top half of the points standings. The squad is presently in fifth place, having won four of its seven matches. LSG will hope Mayank’s pace and determination can carry them through a difficult second half of the season.
