MS Dhoni Named CSK Captain Again; Ruturaj Gaikwad Ruled Out of IPL 2025

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have today officially announced MS Dhoni as the captain for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season as Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the remainder of the season.
The franchise officially announced today on their social media that captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the IPL 2025 season due to a hairline fracture of the elbow.
In his absence, 5-times IPL winning captain with CSK, MS Dhoni is back once again leading the franchise. He will be leading the side starting from the KKR match on April 11 till the end of the season.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s hand-picked candidate to replace the former India captain who won 5 IPL trophies as CSK captain. It was Ravindra Jadeja first who was bestowed the leadership duty but he failed to deliver.
But just few hours ahead of the IPL 2024 season, the franchise officially announced that MS Dhoni has picked Ruturaj Gaikwad as the team’s captain for the season as he attended pre-tournament captains meeting.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finished at 5th position in the IPL 2024 points table and missed out on the chance to qualify for the playoffs in their very first league phase match vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who beat CSK to qualify for the playoffs ahead of them on same points, albeit on a better net run rate.

Captain’s Gaikwad’s performance was also not upto the mark as despite starting off well, he failed to even touch the double digit mark in 3 matches while he scored 2 fifties in the other 2 matches.
