Rajasthan Royals became the second team to be eliminated from the playoffs after losing to the Mumbai Indians at their home ground in Jaipur. By performing brilliantly in this match, the Mumbai team defeated Rajasthan one-sidedly. This marked the Rajasthan Royals’ eighth defeat in the Indian Premier League 2025 season. 

In the 50th match of the tournament, the Mumbai Indians set a significant total of 217 runs against Rajasthan and managed to defend it easily, winning the match by 100 runs. This loss was particularly tough for the Rajasthan Royals, as it marked their sixth defeat out of the last seven matches. 

On the other hand, the victory propelled the Mumbai Indians to the top of the points table. With this win over Rajasthan, the Mumbai Indians recorded their sixth consecutive victory, bringing them one step closer to the playoffs and increasing their chances of finishing in the top two of the group stage.

Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals’ performance in the match 

Earlier in the match, the Rajasthan Royals won the toss and invited the Mumbai Indians to bat. The opening pair of the Mumbai Indians gives an outstanding start to their team. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma played a very responsible and attacking game from the start. They added 116 runs for the opening partnership. After the dismissal of the opening pair, Mumbai Indians’ skipper Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav came to bat. They also played brilliantly well and scored 48 runs each. Moreover, Mumbai Indians’ excellent batting helped the team set a target of 218 runs for Rajasthan.

The Rajasthan Royals played completely differently in the second innings than they had in the previous match. Rajasthan’s last match hero Vaibhav Suryavanshi got out on a duck in the very first over. Moreover, they lost five wickets in the first power play.

No batter of the Rajasthan Royals played well, and the whole team was all out on 117 runs. With the defeat in this match, the Rajasthan Royals’ dream of reaching the playoffs this year was shattered, and they were out of the playoff race. Due to his brilliant innings of 61 runs, Ryan Rickelton became the player of the match in this match.

Rajasthan Royals will travel to Kolkata to face KKR on May 4, where they will play for their pride. Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians will host the Gujarat Titans at their home ground on May 6.
