Following the official announcement of India’s tour of South Africa on Friday, Namibian cricket team captain Gerhard Erasmus made a special request to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on social media. India is set to play a four-match T20I series against South Africa starting November 8. Typically, visiting teams play warm-up matches before the main series to acclimatised to the conditions.

Gerhard Erasmus Suggests Team India to Play T20I Series vs Namibia

Erasmus suggested that India consider playing their warm-up games against Namibia to prepare for the South African series. “Hey @BCCI, warm-up in Windhoek?” he wrote on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). Associate nations like Namibia rarely get opportunities to play against top-tier teams outside of major ICC tournaments like the ODI and T20 World Cups.

If the BCCI accepts Namibia’s offer, it would be a significant event in the country’s cricketing history. Erasmus didn’t stop at just one request. In response to a fan’s comment, he further urged the BCCI to schedule two T20Is against Namibia. “And 2 with Namibia please,” he added.

India has faced Namibia only once, during the 2021 T20 World Cup in Dubai. In that match, Namibia posted a score of 132/8 in 20 overs, with David Wiese top-scoring with 26. India’s bowlers, including Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja, collectively took eight wickets. India comfortably chased down the target, with Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul both scoring fifties, winning by nine wickets.

India Tour of South Africa Schedule in Brief

Regarding India’s tour of South Africa, the series will kick off on November 8 at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium in Durban. The subsequent matches will be held in Gqeberha on November 10, Centurion on November 13, and Johannesburg on November 15. This short tour fits between India’s home Test series against New Zealand and their tour of Australia for the Border-Gavaskar series.
