Pakistan’s Decline in ICC Rankings Across All Formats

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released its annual team rankings on May 5, 2025, in Dubai. The newly announced rankings reveal a notable decline for Pakistan across all three formats of international cricket—Test, One Day International (ODI), and T20 Internationals.
In the Test cricket format, Pakistan’s position has weakened as the team now stands behind Sri Lanka, who have significantly improved their ranking. Australia continues to dominate the ICC Men’s Test Team Ranking with a rating of 126, maintaining its position at the top. England has risen to second place under the captaincy of Ben Stokes with a rating of 113, outperforming South Africa and India, who are now third and fourth with ratings of 111 and 105, respectively. New Zealand is ranked fifth in Test cricket, followed by Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe. The rankings only include ten teams currently eligible to be ranked; Ireland and Afghanistan need to play more matches to be included in the Test rankings.
In ODI cricket, India has secured the top position with an increased rating from 122 to 124 after their victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. New Zealand has moved up to second place, surpassing Australia, which is now third. Sri Lanka’s performance has also been commendable, rising to fourth place following victories against India and Australia. Pakistan is positioned fifth in the ODI rankings, followed by South Africa, Afghanistan, England, West Indies, and Bangladesh.
T20 Internationals see India at the top with a reduced lead over Australia, who are positioned second with a nine-point deficit. England is third in the T20 rankings, with New Zealand, West Indies, and South Africa trailing behind. Notably, Sri Lanka has advanced to seventh place, overtaking Pakistan. Canada achieved the most significant rating gain in T20 cricket, increasing their rating by nine points and entering the top 20. Additionally, Bahamas and Estonia made significant positional improvements, climbing eighth and seventh places to 51st and 61st respectively.
These updates reflect the dynamic and competitive nature of international cricket, with teams like Sri Lanka and India making significant strides, while Pakistan faces challenges to climb back up the rankings.
