The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to unveil the highly-anticipated 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, following an unforeseen delay. The selection announcement, originally slated for today, has now been postponed to tomorrow due to adverse weather conditions that affected the preparations.

Pakistan is preparing to start its T20 World Cup campaign on a historic note, as they are scheduled to play against the co-host United States of America in Dallas on June 6. This will be followed by high-octane encounters against arch-rivals India, as well as matches against Canada and Ireland later in the month.

This year, the PCB faced a setback due to inclement weather in Leeds that disrupted the squad’s announcement schedule. The rain has not only impacted the announcement but has also been a consideration in the selection process, as player performance evaluations have had to adapt to the conditions.

PCB to Reveal T20 World Cup Squad After Delay

Head coach Gary Kirsten has been actively assessing the players to assemble a competitive team. Guided by the stalwart and strategic leadership of Babar Azam as captain and the dependable Mohammad Rizwan playing a pivotal role, the coaching staff is looking to strike the right balance between experience and emerging talent for the prestigious tournament.

Notable absentees from the squad include Hasan Ali, Salman Ali Agha, and Mohammad Irfan. Instead, the focus seems to be on integrating young and promising players with seasoned campaigners like Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim. Proposed names for the squad, aside from Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, include the likes of Abrar Ahmed, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Amir, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Usman Khan, who are all expected to make significant contributions to the team’s performance.

With the ICC’s deadline for squad submissions set for May 24, the PCB is under pressure to finalize and submit their squad list. Post-deadline, any changes to the team will require the ICC Technical Committee’s approval and can only be made on medical grounds.
