Varun Chakravarthy was the hero of the Indian cricket team’s dominant T20I series win vs England. The mystery was a big mystery for the England batter as they had now clue of the 33-years-old’s bowling variations.
Chakravarthy has been in great form recently since making his return to the team post the IPL 2024 season. In the 5 match T20I series vs England, Varun picked 14 wickets with an economy rate of 7.67. His most outstanding performance was in the 3rd T20I in Rajkot where he took 5 wickets for 24 runs but unfortunately India lost the match.
Now that the Indian cricket team prepares for the upcoming 3 match ODI series against the Three Lions, the final hurdle before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and Dubai, Chakravarthy has been seen training with the Indian side before the 1st ODI in Nagpur on 6th February. This has led to many believe that Varun might included in the squad eventually while many thinks it’s just for training reason.

It must be noted that Varun Chakravarthy is yet to make his ODI debut for Team India. Chakravarthy made his India debut in the T20I series vs Sri Lanka in 2021. And despite playing just 3 matches, but after his great performance in the IPL 2021, Chakravarthy was also included in India’s 2021 T20 World Cup squad. However, he didn’t have a great campaign as he failed to take a wicket in 3 matches.
But since then, he has worked hard, impressing every season for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL. In the IPL 2024, he took 21 wickets from 14 matches and could have also won the Purple Cap had KKR’s last two matches didn’t get washed out due to rain.
Ashwin backs Varun Chakravarthy to be included in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad
Recently, legendary off-spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin has stated that Varun Chakravarthy should be included in India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
“We are all talking about whether he should have been there (Champions Trophy squad), I am thinking there is a chance he might be there. I have a feeling he might make it. There is a chance because all teams have named only a provisional squad. So, he might get picked,” Ashwin said in his YouTube video.
