India’s Ravindra Jadeja made history during the third Test against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane. He surpassed a 56-year-old record to achieve the highest individual score for an Indian batter at No. 7 at this iconic venue.

Jadeja faced 123 balls and scored an impressive 77 runs in the first innings. This innings not only helped India avoid a follow-on but also etched his name into the record books. He surpassed Chandu Borde’s long-standing record of 63 runs at No. 7, which had been set in 1968.

The match saw India making strategic changes. Ravindra Jadeja replaced Ravichandran Ashwin, while Akash Deep stepped in for Harshit Rana. These changes proved significant as Jadeja’s performance was pivotal in stabilizing the Indian innings, which had initially struggled.

Australia had set a formidable first innings score of 445, with solid centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith. However, India’s Jasprit Bumrah provided a much-needed boost, taking six critical wickets for the team. Despite this, India faced a batting collapse, which was halted by the efforts of KL Rahul and Jadeja.

Jadeja’s performance in Australia has been remarkable, recording a batting average of 56.75 across five innings. This feat surpasses the averages of notable players such as Sachin Tendulkar (53.20), Virat Kohli (50.96), Cheteshwar Pujara (47.28), and Rohit Sharma (26.68) for Indian players who have faced over 400 balls in Australia.

The match concluded with significant contributions from Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah, helping India reach 252/9 by the end of Day 4. Jadeja’s achievement at the Gabba stands out as a testament to his skill and determination, marking a significant highlight in Indian Test cricket history.
