The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will have to somewhere else as the franchise is now in the hunt for a replacement option for injured Jacob Bethell, who has now been removed England’s Champions Trophy squad and is unlikely to be fit by the time IPL 2025 starts.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) spent major bucks to get the services of the rising England sensation. The franchise included him in the team for 2.60 crore INR in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

He was set to feature in his first ever IPL campaign, but the England youngster will now have it wait a long year. Jacob Bethell reportedly suffered an injury while playing for England in the 1st ODI vs India. Bethell batted well in the match scoring 51 runs and was the team’s one of the best batter on the night.

However, after the 1st ODI Jacob Bethell was declared injured and was ruled out of not only the India ODI series but also the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for which he made the England squad.

RCB likely to sign Richard Gleeson as replacement

With Jacob Bethell already ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025, it is unlikely that he will be fit in time for the IPL 2025. Thus, Royal Challengers Bengaluru is reportedly interested in bringing in Englishman Richard Gleeson as his replacement.

Richard Gleeson is a 37-years-old right-arm medium pace bowler. Gleeson will bring a lot of experience which could be handy in a high scoring venue like the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. He is also in good form taking 14 wickets in the recently concluded SA20 2025 season. His change of pace and variations is his key strength that could work well at the Chinnaswamy.

Gleeson has played 6 T20Is for England and taken 9 wickets. He has played a total of 102 T20 matches and has taken 118 wickets. He has a great experience of playing cricket all around the world. He played 2 matches for CSK in IPL 2024 and took 1 wicket.
