Rishabh Pant faced disappointment in the IPL 2025 as he was unable to deliver a significant performance for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 1, 2025. Despite being one of the most expensive players, bought for Rs 27 crore, Pant was dismissed for a single-digit score. This added to the pressure on him to perform, especially after Glenn Maxwell’s key dismissal that contributed to LSG’s early struggles.

Lucknow Super Giants managed to score 171/7 in their allotted 20 overs. This effort was spearheaded by significant innings from Ayush Badoni, who contributed 41 runs, and Abdul Samad, with a quick-fire 23 off 9 balls, helping to stabilize the team’s innings after early difficulties. Nicholas Pooran also added 44 runs before being dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal.

The match began with PBKS winning the toss and electing to field first. Their decision paid off with early wickets taken by Lockie Ferguson and Arshdeep Singh, the latter securing two crucial wickets towards the end of the innings. PBKS now faces a chase target of 172 runs, adding pressure on Shreyas Iyer to lead them to victory.

Both Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer were highly valuable purchases in the auction, with Iyer slightly less at Rs 26.75 crore. However, with Pant’s recent performance, attention now shifts to Iyer and his ability to justify the investment by guiding Punjab Kings to a win in this critical match.

As the game progresses, all eyes remain on how Iyer performs under scrutiny, while Pant seeks an opportunity to redeem himself in the upcoming matches of IPL 2025.
