Rishi Dhawan Retires from Domestic Limited-Overs Cricket

Rishi Dhawan, a former Indian all-rounder, announced his retirement from domestic limited-over tournaments. The announcement follows the inability of Himachal Pradesh, the team he has significantly contributed to, to advance to the knockout stages of the Vijay Hazare Trophy this season. Despite retiring from this format of the game, Dhawan has confirmed his continued participation in the Ranji Trophy season starting on January 23.
Rishi Dhawan enjoyed a 20-year cricket career, during which he played three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and a Twenty20 International (T20I) for India in 2016. He also showcased his skills in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians from 2013 to 2024. In addition to these teams, he expressed gratitude towards BCCI, HPCA, and Kolkata Knight Riders for the opportunities provided throughout his career.
In his domestic career, Dhawan was instrumental in leading Himachal Pradesh to their only Vijay Hazare Trophy title in the 2021-22 season. This season, he accumulated 196 runs with an average of 39.20 across seven matches and took eight wickets. His career statistics are impressive, having played 134 List A matches, scoring 2906 runs, and claiming 186 wickets. He also featured in 135 T20s, scoring 1740 runs and taking 118 wickets.
The 34-year-old all-rounder took to social media to announce his decision, reflecting on his two-decade-long career. He appreciated all those who supported him throughout his journey, including various cricket associations and IPL teams he was a part of. Despite his departure from domestic limited-overs tournaments, his contributions to Indian cricket, both at the domestic and international levels, remain significant and laudable.
