“Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli weren’t confirmed to play T20 World Cup 2024” – Shubman Gill

Newly appointed Indian cricket team’s ODI vice-captain Shubman Gill has made a astonishing disclosure that captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli were not certain to play in the T20 World Cup 2024 which India won in West Indies.
Team India led by captain Rohit Sharma snatched the Trophy out of the mouth of South Africa cricket team in the T20 World Cup 2024 final to finally end their ICC Trophy draught since 2013 and their 2nd ever T20 World Cup since winning the inaugural one in 2007.
After India won the 2024 T20 World Cup hosted by West Indies and USA, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli alongwith Ravindra Jadeja, all announced their retirement from the format.
However, Shubman Gill recently made a shocking claim that neither of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would have featured in the T20 World Cup 2024 after India lost the 2023 ODI World Cup played in India.
“After the World Cup (2023 ODI), we weren’t sure if Rohit Bhai or Virat Bhai would be playing in the T20 World Cup and watching them win that tournament was very satisfying for me, Shubman Gill said during the Inside out with Gill show on Disney+Hotstar.
India won the opening match of 3 match ODI series
Meanwhile, Team India is currently hosting the England cricket team. Suryakumar Yadav led Indian team won the 5 match T20I series 4-1 while the Rohit Sharma led side won the opening match of the 3 match ODI series in Nagpur.
Captain Rohit Sharma’s poor run of form continued in this match. Sharma struggled in the Test series vs Australia in down under and that poor form continued here as well. Sharma scored only 2 runs off 7 balls before was dismissed by Saqib Mahmood.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli didn’t play in this match due to injury. But vice-captain Shubman Gill played a match winning knock as he scored 87 runs off 96 balls to help India chase down 249 runs.
