There were major question marks over the Indian captain’s recent form in the red ball cricket. Many fans and cricket experts were not happy with Rohit’s captaincy decision, including in the last match when he decided to field open when Australia’s 9, 10 and 11 were batting.
Not only his captaincy, Rohit Sharma’s bat has remained silent throughout the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025. After 5 innings, the 37-years-old has scored only 31 runs, which if you compare, Jasprit Bumrah has 30 wickets in the series.
Ever since the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the Indian cricket, he has adamant about rebuilding the team. He has successfully managed to do so for T20I team but there is a lot of work to do.
Rohit Sharma is currently the team’s captain in Red Ball cricket and in the ODI format while announced his retirement after winning the T20 World Cup in 2024.
Shubman Gill to replace Rohit Sharma
Shubman Gill, who was dropped from the 4th Test, is set to included in the playing XI for the 5th Test in Sydney in place of Rohit. Gill was dropped from the playing XI in the last match with claims that he did not fit in team combination, which many fans didn’t agree and many believed that he was dropped only to fit Sharma into the XI.
