Rajasthan Royals (RR) have confirmed that their skipper Sanju Samson will not travel to Bengaluru for the upcoming fixture against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Samson, who has been a pivotal player for the Royals, is currently sidelined due to an abdominal injury, impacting the team’s performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

Rajasthan Royals, struggling this season with a four-match winless streak, sit eighth in the standings with just four points from eight matches. Sanju Samson’s absence is a significant blow as the team hopes to break their losing streak. Riyan Parag has taken over the captaincy duties in Samson’s absence. The Royals are adopting a cautious approach regarding his return, evaluating his condition on a game-by-game basis. Previously dealing with a finger injury earlier in the season, Samson sustained a fresh abdominal injury during a match against Delhi Capitals on April 16.

In a statement, Rajasthan Royals announced that Samson will remain at the team’s home base and not travel to Bengaluru for Thursday’s encounter with RCB. The team will look to their younger talents, with 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi making a historic debut as the youngest ever player in IPL history. Suryavanshi opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal against the Lucknow Super Giants, marking a significant milestone in his cricketing career.

RCB, currently third in the standings, are coming off a successful match against Punjab Kings. The absence of a seasoned player like Samson could present an advantage to the opposition, although the Royals are optimistic about the young talent stepping up.

As the Royals prepare for the challenge at RCB, they remain hopeful for Sanju Samson’s swift recovery. His leadership and performance have been crucial, and his return could potentially turn the tide for the Royals in the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. The team management is prioritizing his health, ensuring that he only returns when fully fit to contribute to their campaign.
