Sam Curran has been appointed as the captain of Surrey’s men’s team for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast 2025 season. This announcement comes as the young all-rounder continues to make significant strides in his cricketing career, taking over a prominent leadership role following the resignation of Jos Buttler as England’s white-ball captain.

Curran, who is 26 years old, has a long-standing relationship with Surrey, having been a part of the club since his Under-15 days. His connection with the team is expected to bolster his leadership as he steps into the captaincy role. Despite his impressive track record, including being named England’s Player of the Tournament in the 2022 T20 World Cup, Curran has faced challenges securing a consistent spot in the national team’s white-ball squad and was notably not selected for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Curran’s prior leadership roles include captaincy of the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and leading the Desert Vipers to the ILT20 2025 final. He also briefly captained Surrey during the 2023 Vitality Blast, gaining invaluable experience for the challenges ahead. His leadership style and on-field performance are well-regarded, with T20 career statistics boasting over 4,000 runs at a strike rate of 135.15 and 254 wickets.

Alec Stewart, Surrey’s High-Performance Cricket Advisor, expressed confidence in Curran’s appointment, citing his previous captaincy roles as beneficial. Stewart also extended gratitude to Chris Jordan for his previous leadership as T20 captain. Curran himself has stated that it is a privilege to lead such a talented team and is determined to guide Surrey to success in upcoming tournaments.

As Curran gears up to lead Surrey in the Vitality T20 Blast, fans and analysts will be keenly watching to see how his leadership influences the team’s performance in the 2025 season.
