Samson Seeks Clearance to Resume Wicketkeeping in IPL 2025

Sanju Samson has traveled to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru seeking clearance to resume his wicketkeeping duties in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Samson, who had to undergo finger surgery earlier in the season, has been temporarily playing as an impact substitute, focusing solely on batting, following partial clearance from the BCCI.
In his absence from the captaincy role, Riyan Parag stepped in to lead the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team for the initial matches. The captaincy change was necessitated due to Samson’s injury, which he sustained during the fifth T20I against England in February, prompting surgical intervention. Furthermore, Dhruv Jurel has taken over the wicketkeeping responsibilities during Samson’s recuperation period.
Samson’s performance as an impact substitute has been noteworthy, scoring 66 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad, 13 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, and 20 runs against Chennai Super Kings. However, Rajasthan Royals faced defeats in their first two games against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. They managed to secure their first win of the season against Chennai Super Kings, a match where Parag led the team capably in Samson’s absence.
Sanju Samson traveled to Bengaluru on March 31 to gain clearance from the CoE. He is expected to reassume captaincy duties if he receives full clearance to play as a wicketkeeper. The timeline for this potential return is set for nearly a week, allowing him enough time to rejoin and lead his team in the subsequent matches.
The Royals are hopeful that Samson’s return will bolster the team’s prospects in IPL 2025. Samson himself has expressed confidence in Riyan Parag’s ability to lead the team during the initial phase, while he focuses on making a full recovery.
