Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), will not be participating in the IPL 2025 clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) due to an abdominal injury. This setback occurred during RR’s match against Delhi Capitals, where Samson had to retire hurt after scoring 31 runs off 19 balls. As a result, Riyan Parag is expected to step in as the captain for the upcoming match at Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Samson’s absence comes at a challenging time for the Rajasthan Royals, who have had a poor start to their IPL 2025 campaign. The team currently holds the eighth position on the table, with only two victories against five defeats. They faced losses in their opening game against Sunrisers Hyderabad and suffered another defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders. While they managed wins against Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings, subsequent losses to Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Capitals have further complicated their season.

Samson has been playing as an Impact Player for the team and was recovering from a finger injury earlier in the season. His injury woes are exacerbating RR’s struggles, as evident from their recent Super Over loss to Delhi Capitals, where the team could only muster 11 runs, largely impacting their performance.

In light of Samson’s absence, Rajasthan Royals might consider 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who could potentially make his IPL debut and become the youngest player in IPL history. Alternatively, if Suryavanshi does not debut, backup keeper Kunal Singh Rathore might be deployed as a makeshift opener. Another option for the team’s batting line-up includes Shubham Sharma, who has been serving as the team’s Impact Player for batting.

There is currently no definite timeline for Samson’s return from this injury, leaving the team to explore various strategies and player combinations to address his absence.
