Sanju Samson Urges MS Dhoni to Extend IPL Career

Sanju Samson has publicly urged former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni not to retire from competitive cricket. This conversation happened in the context of their ongoing participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where Samson expressed his desire for Dhoni to continue playing.
Both players will be part of the upcoming IPL 2025, representing their respective teams. Samson will continue to lead the Rajasthan Royals, while Dhoni remains with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Dhoni, who has been a significant part of IPL since its inception in 2008, was retained by CSK for the IPL 2025 season. However, he will be assuming a guiding role to support Ruturaj Gaikwad, the current CSK captain, after stepping down from captaincy in 2024.
During an event, Sanju Samson, who is recovering from an injury, requested the 43-year-old Dhoni to consider playing in the IPL 2026 and emphasized this by saying ‘Thoda aur,’ which translates to ‘a little more,’ asking Dhoni to extend his tenure in the IPL.
For the IPL 2025 season, Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals are set to begin their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23. Despite their illustrious IPL history, the Rajasthan Royals have not won a title since 2008, under the leadership of the late Australian cricketer Shane Warne.
In the previous season, IPL 2024, Sanju Samson achieved an impressive record by scoring 531 runs in 16 matches, securing his position as the fifth-most successful batter of that season. This performance adds to his motivation to see Dhoni continue contributing to the excitement of the league.
The camaraderie and respect between the two players highlight the mutual admiration among IPL athletes and underline the league’s role in bringing together cricketing talents across generations.
