Shimron Hetmyer’s dismissal in Qualifier 2 against Sunrisers Hyderabad became a significant moment not just for him but also in terms of disciplinary action. This penalty was for a Level 1 offence under the IPL Code of Conduct. Hetmyer admitted to his mistake and accepted the sanction from the Match Referee, resolving the issue quickly.

Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals has been fined 10% of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 24,” the BCCI stated.

“Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”

The specifics of the incident were not detailed by the BCCI, but it stemmed from Hetmyer’s frustration after being dismissed. Struggling under the pressure of the chase, he faced difficulty against SRH’s left-arm spinner Abhishek Sharma, managing just 4 runs from 10 balls. Trapped lbw by a flat delivery, Hetmyer reacted angrily by hitting the stumps with his bat before leaving the field.

His dismissal was a turning point in the match. Despite a brave effort from Dhruv Jurel, Rajasthan Royals fell short by 36 runs, ending their IPL 2024 campaign.

However, SRH’s spinners, Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma, dominated by taking five wickets between them, ensuring their team’s victory and a place in the IPL 2024 final.
