Shreyas Iyer in red-hot form ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction
Shreyas Iyer’s knock came as a reminder for franchises about his current form. Iyer has registered himself at the base price of Rs 2 crore, and is expected to get a big deal in the IPL auction. He is very good captaincy material as he is one of few captains who has IPL title under their name.
Before moving to KKR in the IPL 2022 and 2024, Shreyas was part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the cash rich tournament. He joined the DC in 2015 and has also been part of the leadership group between 2018 and 2020. In IPL 2020, under the leadership of Iyer DC managed to qualify for the final but lost it to Mumbai Indians (MI).
In the IPL 2025 mega auction, many big franchises may target him for the captaincy role as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS) even his former team KKR needs a captain for themselves. Iyer has worked previously with the former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting at Delhi Capitals, is now the head coach of the Punjab Kings and they will be heading to the auction with a purse of Rs 110.50 crore.
Shreyas Iyer’s T20 records
Due to his clean striking of the ball in the shortest format of the game, he possesses a good record to his name. He has scored 5629 runs at an excellent average of 32.4 with the strike rate of 131.3 in 214 outings.
In the Indian Premier League, he has played 116 matches between 2015 and 2024, has missed only one season 2023 due to injury. He has managed to score 3127 runs at an average of 32.2, striking over 127 in the format.
It should be noted that he is excellent in both anchoring the innings and at the same time counter attacking. He can be a very good pick for any side in the mega auction and will be a solid middle-order batsman for them.
