Amid rumours of things not going well between Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, the latter has now unfollowed the Indian captain on Instagram. Indian opener Shubman Gill was listed as a reserve player for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and traveled to the USA with the Indian team. However, he was not part of the main 15-member squad.

After the New York leg of the tournament, the Indian team management decided to send Gill back to India due to disciplinary issues. Reports indicate that Gill was more focused on his personal business ventures than on his national team duties during the ICC event.

Initially, the Indian T20 World Cup 2024 squad included Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed as reserves. Following the New York leg, Gill, along with Avesh Khan, was sent home, while Khaleel Ahmed and Rinku Singh remained on standby.

Since Team India’s arrival in the USA, Gill had not been traveling with the team, instead dedicating significant time to his own plans. During the India-Pakistan match, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan, and Rinku Singh were present to support the team, but Gill was notably absent.

Shubman Gill Reported Unfollow Rohit Sharma on Instagram

Speculation about potential tension between Gill and team captain Rohit Sharma arose when rumors surfaced that Gill had unfollowed Sharma on Instagram.

Currently, Team India is in Florida preparing for their upcoming match against Canada. Despite his strong performance in IPL 2024, where he scored 426 runs at an average of 38.73 with one hundred and a couple of fifties, Gill was overlooked for the main squad in favor of Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The Indian team has been dominant in the World Cup so far, winning all three of their matches against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA to top the Group A table. After facing Canada, the Men in Blue will advance to the Super 8s, where their first match will be against Afghanistan on June 20.
