Suresh Raina takes an indirect dig at Sanjiv Goenka and LSG over KL Rahul

On Tuesday, April 29th, Delhi Capitals are taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in the 48th match of IPL 2025 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. In this match, Delhi Capitals’ skipper Axar Patel won the toss and decided to bowl first. In this match, Suresh Raina and Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty, KL Rahul’s father-in-law, provided commentary. During the commentary, Suresh Raina took an indirect dig at the Lucknow Super Giants and their owner, Sanjiv Goenka, regarding Rahul. He said that KL Rahul is enjoying himself more in the country’s capital than in Lucknow. That shows he has indirectly taken a dig at the owner of LSG. He attacked Sanjiv Goenka, who had behaved inappropriately with Rahul after a match against SRH in IPL 2024.
Old feud between Sanjiv Goenka and KL Rahul
Sanjiv Goenka faced criticism last year for his authoritative approach towards KL Rahul during Rahul’s tenure as captain of the franchise. After LSG conceded 160 runs in just ten overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad last season, people saw Goenka publicly address Rahul. This incident reportedly caused a fallout between Goenka and Rahul, leading to Rahul’s release from the franchise, which went on to spend ₹27 crore on Rishabh Pant in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in search of a new captain.
Delhi Capitals subsequently picked Rahul up for ₹14 crore at the auction. DC co-owner Parth Jindal later said that the Indian batter wants “love and respect” from his new team, further adding fuel to the fire.
Recently, KL Rahul became the fastest player to reach 5,000 IPL runs after scoring an unbeaten fifty against LSG. He finished not out at 57 runs off 42 balls, including three fours and three sixes, and completed the milestone in just 130 innings. He surpassed the previous record held by former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner, who achieved it in 135 innings.
