Amid speculations of discord within Team India, Suryakumar Yadav has addressed concerns about a possible rift with Hardik Pandya. This follows Pandya’s recent demotion from the vice-captaincy of the T20I team, a change that has raised eyebrows in the cricketing community. Suryakumar, the current T20I captain, has set the record straight on the matter, ensuring fans and the media that his relationship with Pandya remains steadfast.

Suryakumar Yadav has taken a clear stance, dismissing any notions of estrangement between him and Hardik Pandya. He emphasized that their friendship, which has grown over the years, particularly since their association with the Mumbai Indians beginning in 2018, is as strong as ever. He reiterated that there are no issues between them, aiming to quell any rumors of a fallout.

In a recent organizational shuffle, Axar Patel has been appointed as the new T20I vice-captain, succeeding Pandya. Suryakumar has praised Patel’s contributions to the team, notably highlighting his performance in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup and his longstanding involvement with the national team. Patel’s appointment marks a noteworthy change in the team’s leadership structure as India looks to the future.

Hardik Pandya had previously served as India’s vice-captain during significant tournaments such as the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup. Despite prevailing expectations that Pandya would lead India’s T20 squad following Rohit Sharma’s retirement, it was Suryakumar who was chosen to captain the side.

Another key figure, Shubman Gill, has retained his vice-captaincy role from his previous tenure during an ODI series against Sri Lanka in August 2024. This move underscores the team’s faith in Gill’s leadership abilities.

Under the guidance of coach Gautam Gambhir, Suryakumar Yadav has successfully led India to T20I series victories against teams like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and South Africa. With an eye on the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled for February-March 2026, Suryakumar is focused on enjoying his captaincy journey while gaining as much experience as possible through numerous matches.

This period marks an important phase for Indian cricket, as they navigate leadership transitions and prepare for future challenges. The onus is now on the current leadership to guide the team effectively, ensuring unity and high performance in the international cricket arena.
