Suryakumar Yadav Surpasses Dhoni in T20 Sixes Milestone

In a notable achievement during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25 final, Suryakumar Yadav surpassed former Indian captain MS Dhoni on a prestigious list. Playing a critical role in Mumbai’s victory against Madhya Pradesh, Yadav scored 48 runs off 35 balls, aiding his team to a five-wicket win at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on December 15. His innings featured four fours and three sixes, contributing significantly to Mumbai’s successful chase of a 175-run target in just 17.5 overs.
Suryakumar’s performance not only bolstered his team’s efforts but also saw him climb to third place among Indian batters with the most sixes in T20 cricket. With a total of 341 sixes, he surpassed MS Dhoni’s record of 338 sixes, which was achieved over 342 innings. This positions Suryakumar just behind Rohit Sharma, who tops the chart with 525 sixes in 435 innings, and Virat Kohli, who stands second with 416 sixes in 382 innings. Sanju Samson follows closely in fifth place with 334 sixes in 277 innings.
During the SMAT 2024-25, Suryakumar played five matches, accumulating 132 runs at an average of 26.40. His performance in the final was complemented by crucial contributions from fellow players. Ajinkya Rahane scored 37 runs off 30 balls, while Suryansh Shedge made an impactful 36 not out off just 15 balls, ensuring a smooth chase for Mumbai.
On the opposing side, Rajat Patidar shone for Madhya Pradesh with a remarkable unbeaten 81 runs from 40 balls. However, despite his efforts, Madhya Pradesh could not secure the win.
Overall, Suryakumar Yadav’s milestone in the SMAT final highlights his growing stature in T20 cricket, particularly in his ability to hit sixes consistently. His achievement is not only a personal milestone but also solidifies his position as one of India’s premier T20 cricketers.
