After their successful attempt to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Australia will be looking to bring their 2nd ever T20 World Cup trophy home under Mitchell Marsh’s captaincy in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The Australian cricket team have dominated the game in the last year, winning the ICC World Test Championship 2023 Final, beating India in the final in England, and then doing the same later in the year, when the Aussies the 50 overs ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 beating India in the final in Ahmedabad, India.

Now to make it a successful last 365 days, Australia will be looking to get their hands on the T20 World Cup trophy come the 29th of June. Just like other World Cup events, Australia is once again one of the favourites to win the Trophy. Today in this article, we take a look at the top 5 Australian players to watch out for in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Travis Head

Ask Team India what Travis Head has done to the Men in Blue. Travis Head has been at the forefront of Australia’s success in the ICC World Test Championship Final and the Cricket World Cup Final in 2023, scoring 163, 18 and 137 runs respectively. He was in prolific form in the IPL where he scored 567 runs in 15 matches with a strike rate of 191.55 and an average of 40.50.

David Warner

David Warner is a synonym of Champion. The Aussie left-handed open bat has been struggling with form recently, which eventually led to him being dropped from the Delhi Capitals playing XI in the IPL. But, it has happened before when David Warner failed to deliver in the IPL but turned up hot in international cricket. Warner will be opening the inning with likely Travis Head, which could allow him to play his kind of cricket and there should be no doubt that David Warner have another great T20 World Cup and return to his form.

Mitchell Starc

It is an ICC event and there is no mention of Mitchell Starc, it can’t happen, right? In preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024, turned up to the IPL after a long gap and he eventually became champion with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), picking up the Player of the Match in the final. Although, it was not a smooth sailing journey for the left-arm pacer. Starc struggled in the early phases of the IPL but showed his true colour in the playoffs and the final. He became back-to-back Player of the Match in Qualifier 1 and the Final to help KKR win the IPL 2024. He picked 13 matches for KKR and picked 17 wickets in the tournament, is it a sign of what he is going to do in the World Cup?

Josh Hazlewood

While it’s quite uncertain at the moment about who is going to partner Mitchell Starc in the T20 World Cup, if it bisJosh Hazlewood, he would be a standout player. Hazlewood is a great bowler and his change of pace with perfect line and length makes him a great choice if the pitches in the T20 World Cup are going to be slow. Hazlewood has experience of 45 T20I matches behind his back and has picked up 61 wickets in those with an economy rate of less than 8. The other options for Australia are Pat Cummins and Nathan Ellis.

Adam Zampa

We can’t go through the list without mentioning a single spinner. Australia’s spin department in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be led by Adam Zampa. So much focus will be on the leg-spinner to deliver for the Aussies. Zampa has played 80 T20I matches for Australia and has 92 wickets to his name. He is currently one of the best spin bowlers in Australia. Australia have Ashton Agar in their squad, but it is very unlikely that left-arm orthodox bowlers will find much game time. Zampa though will be partnered by part-time spinner Glenn Maxwell and even Travis Head can bowl, though it might not come to him.
