With the T20 World Cup 2024 being the biggest in the history of the tournament, the Canadian cricket team is set to participate in its very first T20 World Cup proper main competition. They will be kicking things off for the 2024 edition when they take on their age-old rivals USA in the opening match on June 2.

We are less than 24 hours away from the biggest T20 World Cup in the history of the competition with 20 teams set to take part in the 2024 edition. Canada will be part of Group A in the T20 World Cup where they will be taking on the likes of Team India, Pakistan, Ireland and their neighbour USA.

They will open the show against co-host United States of America on the 2nd of June. Before that, let us take a look at their top 5 players in the tournament to watch out for.

Aaron Johnson

Keep your eyes on the 33-year-old Jamaica-born batter Aaron Orlando Johnson. Johnson is one of the best batters for Canada in the shortest format of the game. Aaron has played 16 matches for the Canada cricket team and has scored 713 runs with a strike rate of 166.59 and an average of 50.93.

Nicholas Kirton

26-year-old left-hand batter Nicholas Kirton is in the exemplary form of late and there is no doubt that he will be looking to prove his mettle in the T20 World Cup 2024. A left-hand batter who bats in the middle order and can play aggressive shots, doesn’t he make you remember someone called Nicholas Pooran? Kirton has played 14 matches and has scored 264 runs with a strike rate of 117.30 and an average of 26.4.

Saad Bin Zafar

Watch out for Punjab, Pakistan-born all-rounder Saad Bin Zafar in a Canada jersey. The 37-year-old is the captain of the Canada team and is equally adept at both batting and bowling. He has scored 272 runs in 19 innings with a strike rate of 133.99 and an average of 22.67. With the ball, he has taken 43 wickets in 38 matches.

Dillon Heyliger

34-year-old Guyana-born right-arm medium pacer Dillon Heyliger will be leading the bowling charge for Canada. The veteran medium pacer has played 36 T20Is for Canada and is their lead bowler and has taken 39 wickets in his career. He can also contribute with the bat, scoring 298 runs in 22 innings at a strike rate of 180.61 and an average of 42.57.

Kaleem Sana

Rawalpindi, Pakistan-born left-arm fast-medium pacer Kaleem Sana is likely to form the pace bowling duo for Canada. The 30-year-old has played only 16 matches for Canada so far and has taken 27 wickets. He has an economy rate of 5.63, be it against the associate teams, but Kaleem Sana will be holding the key for wickets for Canada in the T20 World Cup 2024. The other options for Canada could be Nikhil Dutta, a right-arm off-spin bowler or Jeremy Gordon.
