The Oman cricket team is back in the ICC T20 World Cup scenes again. Oman made their T20 World Cup debut in the year 2016 when the World Cup was held in India. They once again featured in the 2021 edition. After missing the 2022 edition, Oman is back in the T20 World Cup 2025 being held in the USA and West Indies.

Oman cricket team will kick-off its T20 World Cup 2024 edition against Namibia in Bridgetown, Barbados on 3rd June. Oman qualified for the tournament through the Asia qualifiers after beating Nepal in Super Overs in the qualifying final. Let’s take a look at their 5 key players to watch out for.

Aqib Ilyas

Oman cricket team’s main man in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be their captain . Ilyas is a Sialkot, Pakistan born cricketer who plays his cricket for Oman, leading the country as the captain of the team. Aqib made his T20I debut for Oman in 2015 vs Hong Kong. Aqib Ilyas is a key player for the Oman team and has been a major reason behind their recent success. Aqib has played 48 T20Is for Oman and has scored 1176 runs with an of 29.4 and strike rate of 125.5. He is also really good with the ball. He has taken 37 wickets in his T20I career.

Zeeshan Maqsood

Zeeshan Maqsood is another Pakistan born cricketer who plays for Oman national cricket team. Zeeshan also made his T20I debut for Oman in 2015. He all-rounder has played 65 T20I matches in his career for Oman and scored 1295 runs with 28.8 average and 121.9 strike rate. He also has bagged 48 wickets with the ball.

Bilal Khan

Bilal Khan, Peshawar, Pakistan born left-arm fast medium pacer is by far Oman’s best bowler. The 36-years-old veteran pacer is one of the most experienced player in the Oman squad. Khan has played 75 T20I matches for Oman and has taken 106 wickets. He was in terrific form in the Asia Qualifiers that secured Oman’s place in the T20 World Cup 2024 and would be looking to keep his form going.

Fayyaz Butt

Oman cricket team captain Aqib Ilyas would be hoping that Fayyaz Butt step-up beside Bilal Khan in the bowling line-up. Fayyaz Butt is a 30-years-old Pakistani born pacer who plays for Oman. Oman would need big contribution from its bowlers to have any chance of a good result. Experienced Fayyaz Butt has played 43 T20I matches in his career and has taken 45 wickets with an economy rate of 7.77.

Pratik Athavale

27-years-old Pratik Athavale is a Nasik, Maharashtra born cricketer who plays for Oman as a recognised wicketkeeper batsman. Athavale opens the inning for Oman and is also their first choice wicketkeeper. Pratik made his Oman debut in 2023 and has so far played 15 matches in which he has scored 278 runs with an average of 25.3 and strike rate of 126. He is coming into the tournament with some good runs behind his back in the Asian Qualifiers.
