The Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma will take the field for the first match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against Ireland on the 5th of June. But before that, the Men in Blue will square off against Bangladesh in their only warm-up match before the competition proper commences on June 2nd.

The Indian cricket team under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy suffered a heart-break in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, losing to Australia in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

But the boys in the blue will be back in action to take home the World Cup, this time in the shortest format of the game, the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to be held in the United States and the Caribbean islands.

Team India comes into the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on the back of the IPL 2024, which the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won. Whenever Indian enters a World Cup, they are always a strong contender, but this time the hype is different. Some of the players selected into India’s squad did not enjoy a successful campaign in the IPL 2024.

India captain Rohit Sharma failed to replicate his World Cup 2023 form in the IPL, though he finished as the leading run scorer for his team, who finished bottom of the points table. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was in prolific form before the IPL, had a struggling campaign. Shivam Dube who looked in good touch in the start of the IPL, didn’t keep his consistency going by the time the tournament ended, while Hardik Pandya is back in the team without playing in any prior international match before the World Cup.

There is also much debate about not selecting Rinku Singh in the squad despite the IPL 2024 winning batter having an international average of 89.0 and strike rate of 176 in his first 15 T20I matches. That leaves Team India with Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja as the finishers.

Team India’s only World Cup warm-up match holds a lot of value as the Men in Blue will have to find their perfect combination in one match itself.
