Tamim Iqbal, the former captain of the Bangladesh cricket team, was discharged from a hospital in Dhaka on March 28, 2024, after undergoing treatment for a heart attack. The incident occurred on March 24, when Tamim experienced chest discomfort while fielding during a Dhaka Premier League match. He was promptly taken to a hospital where a stenting procedure was performed after doctors identified a blockage in one of his arteries. His condition was reported as critical upon arrival.

In charge of his treatment was Shahabuddin Talukder. Under his care, Tamim’s condition improved significantly within a few days, allowing him the ability to walk and converse with his family. Following this health scare, Tamim is set to engage in a rehabilitation program, advised by Abu Zafar, an official from the Bangladeshi health ministry. As part of his recovery, Tamim has been instructed to refrain from smoking and adhere strictly to medical advice.

The rehabilitation program suggests that Tamim Iqbal will remain off the cricket field for the next three months. Despite the severity of the incident, fellow cricketers including Yuvraj Singh have shown support and expressed confidence in Tamim’s recovery.

Tamim Iqbal is the only Bangladeshi cricketer to score centuries across all three formats of the game. Over his career, he has achieved 8,357 runs in 243 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 5,134 runs in 70 Test matches. In January 2025, Tamim announced his retirement from international cricket, leaving behind a commendable legacy in Bangladesh cricket.

As Tamim focuses on his health, his fans and fellow cricketers continue to hope for his swift and complete recovery.
