One of the all-time greats of the game, Brian Lara, has stated that Test cricket needs a player like Virat Kohli after the rumours started circulating that the former India captain is considering retirement from the longest format of the game.

The Indian cricket fans were given a big blow when the reports came out that former India captain and star batter Virat Kohli has informed the BCCI about his decision to retire from the 5 day long format.

According to reports, the BCCI has urged Virat Kohli to rethink his decision, a special someone is talking to Virat about the same. Virat Kohli’s retirement could be a big blow for Team India, as recently, captain Rohit Sharma also announced his retirement from the format.

The reports of the same have left fans in shatters, and many have urged Kohli not to retire yet. Meanwhile, former West Indies batter and one of the greatest of the game, Brian Lara has given a big statement on Kohli’s Test cricket retirement.

Lara took to his official Instagram handle and posted that Test cricket needs Virat Kohli. He added that Kohli will be persuaded and he won’t retire. He also predicted that Kohli would average 60 for the remainder of his Test career.

“Test cricket needs Virat!! He is going to be persuaded. He is NOT going to retire from Test cricket. Virat Kohli is going to average above 60 for the remainder of his Test career.

Virat Kohli made his Test cricket debut for Team India on June 20, 2011, against the West Indies. Since then, he has established himself as a superstar cricketer. He has played 123 Test matches, in which he has scored 9230 runs, averaging 46.9.

India to tour England in June

Virat Kohli is one of the pillars of the Indian team in Test cricket alongside the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit’s retirement has already been a big blow and Kohli’s retirement would make Team India comparatively weak going into the Test series vs England.

Team India will visit England in June for a 5 match Test series commencing India’s campaign in the World Test Championship 2025-2027 cycle. The first Test match is scheduled to take place from 20 June at Headingley, Leeds.

Team India will be visiting England under a new captain with Rohit Sharma’s retirement. Shubman Gill is said to be the leading candidate to become next captain while wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant could be the vice-captain.
