The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is set to kick-off on the 22nd March with the opening match of the tournament is set to be played between the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The excitement continues to rise for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season as the cricket’s biggest festival is impending with the high voltage clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Last season, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final to lift their third Trophy. While the seasoned pros like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma continued their great run for form in the league, it was also witness to some new faces rising up to the occasion, the likes of Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy etc.

As the new season is now just about 2 weeks away, the excitement is currently palpable and it will be exciting to see which players turn out to be the heroes for their respective teams. In this article, we take a look at 3 players who can be the most dominant player in the IPL 2025.

Virat Kohli

The Indian Premier League (IPL) all-time run scorer Virat Kohli is always a constant when it comes to being one of the best player in the entire season. Kohli won the Orange Cap last season for scoring most runs in the tournament in the IPL 2024 season. The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper scored 741 runs and he will once again be a player to watch out for in the IPL 2025 season. Kohli plays for RCB which plays at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which favours for high run scoring with the small boundaries all around the park. Virat has a great track record in the IPL having scored over 8000 runs in the tournament history. Expect him to deliver some great performance once again.

Abhishek Sharma

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma had a wonderful season in the IPL 2024, his breakthrough season. The opening garnered a reputation scoring the maximum runs in the powerplay with his aggresive batting display. Sharma has been playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for more than 6 seasons over the years. However, the IPL 2024 season was his breakthrough season as the Punjabi batter scored 484 runs with an highly impressive strike rate of 204.22 and average of 32.27.

He got his India call-up as a result of that and scored a century in his debut series vs Zimbabwe. Abhishek is once again expected to do quite well in the tournament as most of the venues during the IPL season favours batting and high scoring. This would complement Abhishek’s aggresive intent. So watch out for the Sunrisers Hyderabad opening batter.

Varun Chakravarthy to aim for purple cap with KKR

From the horrors of the 2021 T20 World Cup in Dubai, Varun Chakravarthy has seen a massive turn around in form as he was one of India’s best player in their glorious ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign in Dubai as he picked 9 wickets. Varun Chakravarthy was dropped from the Indian team after the T20 World Cup 2021, but the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spin bowler has consistently done well for the Kolkata based franchise in the IPL over the years. Varun has played 71 IPL matches and taken 83 wickets.

He could have won the Purple Cap in IPL 2024 hadn’t KKR last few matches were washed away due to rain. Still, Varun ended the campaign with 21 wickets. He also bagged 20 wickets in the season before that. With the Eden Gardens not normally a spin friendly pitch noway, Varun has still continued to excel, which is a testament to Varun Chakravarthy’s qualities. With the kind of form the KKR bowler is in, expect him to be one of the standout player of the season again.
