IPL 2025 mega auction came as a surprise for many as it went on to break all the previous auction records. Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Venkatesh Iyer earned record-breaking deals while Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh also went for plenty. Pant and Shreyas became the all-time costliest players with deals worth 27 crore and 26.75 crore, respectively.

Jos Buttler became the highest-paid overseas star with INR 15.75 crore from Lucknow Super Giants. But it didn’t work well for some known and big names. There were a few renowned players who surprisingly went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction. In this article, we will talk about the top 5 unsold players in the IPL 2025.

List of Top Five Unsold Players in the IPL 2025 mega auction

1. David Warner

IPL 2023: 3 Players Who Will Be Crucial for Delhi Capitals to Win PBKS vs DC Match No. 64 IPL 2025 mega auction

Former Australian opener David Warner went unsold with a base price of INR 2 crore. He was released by DC ahead of the auction. But no franchises wanted to have him. Warner has retired from international cricket, and his age may also be one reason behind him going unsold. But he is the leading scorer in the IPL as an overseas player with 6565 runs in 184 games, including four centuries and 62 half-centuries.

2. Kane Williamson

Another overseas star who has captained an IPL team went unsold. Former Kiwi captain Kane Williamson is among the best batters in the world. But there has always been a question in his T20 career. Though he has a great IPL career with 2128 runs in 77 innings, but his recent form was one reason that he went unsold. Williamson registered himself with a base price of INR 2 crore and didn’t get a buyer.

3. Mayank Agarwal

Another surprising name was Indian opener Mayank Agarwal. He also has the experience of leading the IPL team, as he has captained Punjab Kings in his career. Mayank has scored 2661 runs in 127 games in the IPL with one century and 13 half-centuries and has played for four different teams (DC/PBKS/RCB/RPS/SRH). But he has been out of the Indian team for a while, and it looks like an end of the road for him.

4. Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur going unsold was the biggest shocker at the IPL 2025 mega auction. He has pretty decent performances with CSK and DC in his IPL career and was expected to get a deal. But his name came very late when most of the teams didn’t have the budget to get him at INR 2 crore, which ended against him, and he went unsold.

5. Jonny Bairstow

English opener Jonny Bairstow is one of the dangerous names in the IPL, and he is one of the fastest players to reach 1000 IPL runs. He has played for over five seasons for SRH and PBKS and has scored 1589 runs in 50 IPL matches. But his average numbers and below-par performances in the last two seasons with PBKS may be one key reason that he didn’t attract any buyers at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
