Varun Chakravarthy Responds to Rohit Sharma’s Bowling Comment

Varun Chakravarthy, renowned for his spin bowling skills, recently addressed remarks made by Indian captain Rohit Sharma regarding his bowling variations. Known for his role in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Varun has had a significant journey in international cricket, underlined by remarkable performances in various tournaments.

Varun Chakravarthy launched his international career in 2021 and participated in the T20 World Cup held in the UAE that year. However, following the tournament, Varun experienced a period out of national contention until 2024. During this time, he honed his skills and bowling action through domestic competitions.

His persistence paid off when he was selected for the T20I series against Bangladesh in early 2024, where he claimed five wickets across three matches. Later on, his prowess was further evident during the South Africa tour, capturing 12 wickets from four matches.

The spinner’s capabilities came to prominence in 2025 when he was unexpectedly brought into the ODI squad for the series against England, marking his ODI debut in Cuttack. Following this, Varun was not initially included in the Champions Trophy 2025 preliminary squad, but he later emerged as a key player by claiming nine wickets in three matches during the tournament.

An interesting turn of events unfolded when Varun garnered attention with a stellar five-wicket haul against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy. In light of this performance, Captain Rohit Sharma commented on Varun’s unique bowling style, suggesting he bowls a single type of delivery during practice sessions, making it difficult for opponents to discern his variations.

In response, Varun clarified that although he indeed has variations in his bowling, he strategically sequences these differently across ODIs and T20s. He emphasized that there is plenty of video footage available for opponents to study his style, and he relies more on natural pitch variations and decision-making rather than keeping his variations under wraps.
