Team India’s leg-spinner, Varun Chakravarthy, made an impactful start by dismissing England’s Jos Buttler in the ongoing T20I series. The match took place on February 2 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Chakravarthy’s bowling prowess has been a significant asset to the Indian team throughout the series.

In the fifth T20I, Jos Buttler was sent back to the pavilion for a run-a-ball seven during the fifth over. The decision to introduce Chakravarthy at this critical junction was made by Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav, who has consistently regarded him as the best bowler of the series. Chakravarthy had earlier demonstrated his excellence by securing the Player of the Match title at the series’ opener held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Throughout the series, Chakravarthy maintained a consistently high standard of performance. He recorded a five-wicket haul (fifer) during the third T20I match at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, although the match concluded in a loss for India. Despite the setback in Rajkot, India’s strategy to rely on Chakravarthy quickly paid dividends as the leg-spinner continued to pose a threat to England’s batting lineup.

The match witnessed England winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. Significant team changes were made pre-match, with England swapping Saqib Mahmood for Mark Wood. Meanwhile, Team India brought in Mohammed Shami, replacing Arshdeep Singh, to strengthen its bowling attack.

Adding to the excitement of the match, Abhishek Sharma delivered an outstanding performance, smashing a century in just 37 balls, and went on to accumulate 135 runs off 54 deliveries. His stellar innings contributed significantly to India’s strong batting display.

England’s batting collapse capped off the day’s play, as they were all out for a mere 97 runs. Mohammed Shami excelled with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets, further consolidating India’s dominance in the series.

Varun Chakravarthy’s consistent ability to take wickets and apply pressure on the opposition has been a key highlight of this T20I series, underlining his value to the Indian team. As the series draws to a close, India looks forward to maintaining its stronghold over England with the help of talented players like Chakravarthy and others.
