Watch: LSG’s Digvesh Rathi Involved in ‘War of Words’ with Abhishek Sharma

During today’s IPL 2025 match between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), LSG’s Digvesh Rathi was involved in an heated exchange with the Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Abhishek Sharma.
The tensions were so intense between Rathi and Abhishek that the umpires had to get involved.
The incident unfolded in the 8th over. Sunrisers Hyderabad were flying while chasing a target of 206 runs with Abhishek Sharma leading the charge. Digvesh Rathi bowled the 8th over of the inning and got the big wicket of Sharma.
It was a full bowled well outside off stump and Abhishek Sharma went for an inside-out shot that he miscued and eventually Shardul Thakur took the catch to get the wicket of the danger match. However, things escalated to next level when Abhishek Sharma was not pleased with Rathi’s send-off.
Digvesh Rathi has grown quite the reputation for his check-list send-off for which he has been fined several times by the BCCI. After getting the wicket of Abhishek, Rathi once again pulled-out the trademark celebration. However, it offended Abhishek and he had a heated argument with Rathi, so much so that the umpires had to intervene. Watch the video below.
Eventually, Abhishek Sharma scored 59 runs off 20 balls at a strike rate of 295.00. His inning included 4 fours and 6 sixes.
Meanwhile, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) eventually won the match by 6 wickets with 8 balls to spare. Besides Abhishek’s stunning batting display, Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, and Kamindu Mendis added valuable contributions.
Earlier, thanks to the brilliant performance by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) trio of Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran, LSG posted 205 runs in 20 overs.
Marsh and Markram scored 65 and 61 runs respectively, adding 115 runs for the opening wicket. Nicholas Pooran also played a cameo of 45 runs off 26 balls. However, LSG captain Rishabh Pant disappointed once again as he scored only 7 runs off 6 balls.
This match between the LSG and SRH had lots of consequences. While Sunrisers Hyderabad registered only their 4th win of the season and pulled themselves away from the bottom of the points table, this defeat has been detrimental for LSG as well.
With this defeat, Lucknow Super Giants’ hopes of a playoff spot are all but over. LSG has accumulated 10 points from 12 matches, and with 2 games remaining, they can reach a maximum of 14 points, which won’t be enough to qualify this season.
