Day 4’s action of the India vs New Zealand 1st Test match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium began with wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant survived a potentially devastating runout. It all unfolded when Sarfaraz Khan expertly sliced Matt Henry’s delivery to a deep backward point.

Both Sarfaraz and Pant took off for what was like likely to be an easy single, chaos ensued. Pant pondered before making a second run, while Sarfaraz desperately signalled for him to stop.

Pant kept looking at the ball, realising his mistake too late, and found himself halfway down the pitch. Sarfaraz frantically looked for to send him back while the crowd at the venue held to their nerves.

New Zealand cricket team’s Tom Blundell had a golden opportunity to pull-off the runout, but luck was on India’s side. Blundell misunderstood the situation and fumbled an accurate throw. His underarm effort went wide, allowing Pant to get away for cover. With India trailing by 86 runs at 270/3, this tight escape could be decisive. Watch the video below.
