Why are Fans Calling MI vs GT a Fixed Match?

On Tuesday, the Mumbai Indians faced the Gujarat Titans at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for the 56th match of IPL 2025. The Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Mumbai Indians had a shaky start, losing both opening batsmen early. As the match progressed, cricket fans on social media began to speculate about match fixing. This suspicion arose due to numerous dropped catches by the Gujarat Titans’ fielders, along with several DRS (Decision Review System) calls going in favour of the Mumbai Indians.
In the early stages of the match, Mohammed Siraj gave Gujarat a good start by taking a wicket in his very first over. However, shortly after, Will Jacks’s catch was missed off Siraj’s delivery. During the first power play, Gujarat’s fielders dropped three catches—those of Will Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav. Additionally, the on-field umpire seemed to overlook many close appeals made by the Gujarat bowlers. The third umpire also took considerable time to review DRS decisions, most of which favoured the Mumbai Indians. This led to an influx of tweets and comments on social media, with many labelling the match as fixed, suggesting that Mukesh Ambani’s influence was affecting the officiating.
Despite the poor start, Will Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav stabilised the innings and formed a partnership of 71 runs. In the end, Corbin Bosch contributed a valuable 27 runs, helping the Mumbai Indians reach a respectable total of 155 runs. In bowling for Gujarat, Sai Kishore took two wickets, while all other bowlers claimed one wicket each.
At the start of the second innings, the Gujarat Titans also lost an early wicket, Sai Sudharsan. However, the team quickly recovered and began to move towards victory. At the time of writing this article, Gujarat needed 53 runs from 38 balls to win the match.
