Why MI and SRH Players Are Wearing Black Armbands in Today’s IPL 2025 Match?

Sunrisers Hyderabad will host the five-time champion Mumbai Indians in the 41st match of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians players will wear black armbands during their IPL game, which will not have cheerleaders and fireworks, here on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. The teams will also hold a minute’s silence in respect of the victims of the incident that has attracted international outrage.
The mood in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium will be down with emotions as the cricket fraternity comes together to pay their respects to the lives lost during the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a number of gestures in remembrance of the victims. Before the first ball is bowled, the stadium will be silent for one minute to show sympathy with the relatives of the 26 tragic deaths.
“The players of two teams will wear black armbands and observe a minute’s silence in memory of all those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam,” a BCCI source told PTI.
Why will umpires and players be wearing black armbands?
As part of the tribute, all on-field officials and players will step onto the field wearing black armbands.
