Now that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK)’s IPL 2025 season has almost come close to a closing with the unlikely to qualify for the playoffs, the question once again in everyone’s mind right now is whether MS Dhoni will play the IPL 2026 season.

MS Dhoni is a 5 times IPL winning captain with the Chennai Super Kings and when he was once again appointed captain after Ruturaj Gaikwad was injured, many hoped that CSK would make a comeback, however that’s not been the case.

CSK have played 9 matches out of which they have won only 2 matches with 7 defeats this season. With only 5 matches left, CSK is unlikely to qualify in the playoffs as they are unlikely to hit the cut-off mark of 14-16 points.

With the season now almost over, there is only one question everyone’s mind, is MS Dhoni going to play IPL 2026 season? Meanwhile, former CSK player and one of the closest Dhoni’s friend Suresh Raina has stated that MS Dhoni will play IPL 2026 season.

In a post match show, former India and CSK batter backed MS Dhoni to play IPL 2026 season. Moving back to a couple of days, MS Dhoni himself said that they will have to plan better and comeback for the IPL 2026 season, indirectly hinting that he is going to play IPL 2026 season.

CSK bottom of IPL 2025 points table

The Chennai Super Kings, 5 times champions, have never finished at the bottom of the points table in an IPL season, however, as of writing this, CSK currently finds themselves at the very bottom of the points table with 4 points in 9 matches and net run rate of -1.302.

They have the same number of points as the 9th placed Rajasthan Royals with equal number of games played. However, their net run rate is the worst in IPL 2025 season for the yellow army.

In their last match, CSK lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at home, making it 7th defeat of the campaign and a first ever home defeat vs SRH. The MS Dhoni led side will next take on the in-form Punjab Kings on April 30, Wednesday, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
